Abstract: Mobile devices are ubiquitous, and a large number of people have them with them almost all of the time. This provides huge opportunities for computational social science research. On the one hand, mobile data allows for ‘in-the-moment' measures of self-reports, using mobile experience sampling or digital diaries. On the other hand, smartphones and other mobile devices produce sensing and tracking data that can be used to measure people’s behavior in a very fine-grained and unobtrusive way.
