Multilinks Database on Intergenerational Policy Indicators
WZB - Berlin Social Science Center. Data File Version 1.0.0, https://doi.org/10.7802/1996
Abstract: The Multilinks project explores how demographic changes shape intergenerational solidarity, well-being and social integration. The project examines a) multiple linkages in families (e.g. transfers up and down family lineages, interdependencies between older and younger family members); b) multiple linkages across time (measures at different points in time, at different points in the individual and family life course); c) multiple linkages between, on the one hand, national and regional contexts (e.g. policy regimes, economic circumstances, normative climate, religiosity) and, on the other hand ... more

Additional information about the file | The codebook provides a brief description of all numerical or categorical indicators that are part of the data set for statistical analysis. What is the range of values? What are the labels of the categories? Which countries are missing for an indicator? It is the starting point for exploring the data set. However, the methodological report and the country-specific comments given in the database should be consulted before using indicators as analytic variables. |

Additional information about the file | Collecting comparative indicators is a challenging task: concepts and definitions vary from country to country; indicators do not always refer to the same unit of measurement or point in time; and different data sources often offer different, sometimes even contradictory figures. The methodological report addresses all of these issues and explains the solutions adopted in each case. It provides detailed documentation and is a must-read in order to use the data prudently. The report also gives the full references for the abbreviated citations in the database. |

Additional information about the file | All changes made to the data since the database was first published are documented in this report, which helps users trace back database development over time. Researchers should use the report to check whether changes have been made to indicators used from an earlier version. |

Additional information about the file | The conceptual report outlines the theoretical framework behind the development of the database. It discusses the different ways in which the state shapes family responsibilities between generations, building on the concept of (de)familialization. |
