Abstract: Electronic Dance Music (EDM) is a music style as well as a global creative industry. Performing live and releasing music are the main practices in this field. This dataset tracks the careers of about 4000 artists in EDM from 2001 to 2015. It is based on a collection of artist gigographies (who performed where and when) and discographies (who released what and when) taken and combined from three online platforms (Resident Advisor, Discogs, and Juno Download). Date(s) of Data Collection: 2019-01; 2019-01

Universe: 4224 musicians in Electronic Dance Music that (a) had a page on Resident Advisor and (b) had their first live performance or music release in or after 2001 at the time of data collection (January 2019), (c) have careers of at least five years, and (d) have performed live or released music in at least five years.

Sampling Procedure: Total Universe / Complete enumeration

Additional information about the file	The dataset consists of the following 23 columns/variables. The position of artists at each point of career is measured by means of sixteen ego network properties within the four networks of co-gig, co-style, co-venue and co-label networks (i.e., independent variables). The four categories are measured as follow: network_community: measured by k-core network_mainstream: measured by closeness centrality network_bridging: measured by betweenness centrality network_constraint: measured by local clustering coefficient network_ correspond to the name of of the four networks: cogig, covenue, colabel, costyle Other variables are as follows: artist: Subject id; name of artist year: Career age; the year in which an artists had at least one live performance career_stage: Indication if the artist is in the early, mid, or late career stage cohort: The starting year of a career gigs_count: Number of live performances release_count: Number of music releases success: Logged travel distance; dependent variable
