Abstract: ALLBUS (GGSS - the German General Social Survey) is a biennial trend survey based on random samples of the German population. Established in 1980, its mission is to monitor attitudes, behavior, and social change in Germany. Each ALLBUS cross-sectional survey consists of one or two main question modules covering changing topics, a range of supplementary questions and a core module providing detailed demographic information. Geographic coverage: Germany (DE), (until 1990 only former West Germany, including West Berlin)
Universe: Persons living in private households in the Federal Republic of Germany who were over 18 years of age at the time of the survey. Starting in 1991, foreign target persons were also included in the ALLBUS samples. If there was no sufficiently good knowledge of German, these target persons are counted among the systematic dropouts.
