Abstract: By joining the German Zollverein (Customs Union) in 1834, the Kingdom of Württemberg committed itself to conduct a census in a fixed three-year rhythm according to uniform criteria and with a recording scheme that was as precise as possible. The data obtained in the process formed the basis for the distribution of the common revenues of the German Customs Union. The Kingdom of Wurttemberg conducted the first census as part of the Zollverein on 15 December 1834.
