Wages and prices of consumer goods in Germany, 1850 to 1889.

Abstract: The study constructs new series of nominal wages in industry and crafts as well as a new consumer goods price index for the period 1850-1889; the coefficient of the two series gives the real wage. While such information was collected and published by government agencies from the late 1880s onwards, the decades before are part of the pre-statistical age. After all, information is available from municipal authorities, from branches of territorial state authorities and from individual companies.
