Additional information about the file | The Eurobarometers (EBs) considered in this collection are the ones including certain specificvariables about aspects such as EU policies; attitudes towards Europe; identity; cognitivemobilization; political institutions; socio-political characteristics and partisanship. The Eurobarometer project started in 1970 and, with the sole exception of 1972, it is availablefor each single year. For the first four editions (1970-1974) only one EB per year is available. From 1975 onwards there are two EBs available per year (spring and fall edition). Thiscollection stops with the 2011 spring edition: the last year for which a codebook is available.A subset of 287 variables is compiled. This subset can be divided in 10 groups of variables. |

Additional information about the file | Policy Votes EES Voter Study Trendfile is created by starting with all the variables of the EESTrendfile (1989-2009) for which there are observations. Several of the questions relating to the probability to vote for a party did not have observations and were dropped. From the EES 2009 Voter Studies we selected variables that could be matched with the EES Trendfile and had relevance to political representation and responsiveness. We include both a list of topic-related variables and background variables, mostly covering demographics. |

Additional information about the file | Policy Votes ISSP Role of Government Trendfile combines four waves of the ISSP surveys (1985-1990-1996-2006) . The file is created by starting with the list of variables of the 1985 Role of Government file. The variables from the years 1990, 1996 and 2006 that could be matched with the Trendfile and had relevance to political representation and responsiveness were then added. We provide full documentation of the variables that were matched in the file “PolicyVotes_ISSP_RoG_Trendfile_Codebook.xls”. We include both a list of topic-related variables and background variables, mostly covering demographics. The first column of this file provides the name of the harmonized variables. |

Additional information about the file | The EU Budget Trendfile covers budget appropriation for the years 1984 until 2013. The data has been collected and provided by Manuele Citi. The data was originally published in the annual report in the Official Journal of the EU. For information about actual payments the financial report issued by the Commission can be consulted. The National Budgets Trendfile covers the years 1990 until 2012. The data has been obtained from the OECD StatsExtracts database which is publicly available [(http://stats.oecd.org/), last accessed October 31, 2014]. The data come from the category “National Accounts”. Then, specifically from “Annual National Accounts” we have selected “General Government Accounts”. From here, we have selected the data table “11. Government expenditure by function (COFOG)”.From table 11, the trendfile contains data from the category “TLYCG: Total government expenditure”. These national accounts estimates are compiled according to the 1993 SNA ('System of National Accounts 1993', Commission of the European Communities-Eurostat, International Monetary Fund, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, United Nations and World Bank, 1993). |

Additional information about the file | The EU Legislation Trendfile covers data for the years 1970 until 2014. The data provided is for directives and regulations. We have excluded corrigenda. From within the collection of Legislation we have searched for data of publication. The file contains the count of all legislative records for a year. These records are also differentiated by policy area. Here each document has been assigned to exactly one policy area. The following policy areas are covered: International Relations, Law, Economics, Trade, Business and Competition, Employment and Working Conditions, and Transport. In the National Legislation Trendfile (years vary per country) we have collected and cross-linked data for legislative output and budget outlays of 15 EU governments and the European Union for the measurements of policy output. For the web-harvesting and topic classification the PolicyMiner tool was developed which includes a Crawler module and an Analyzer module. |
