Notes: On November 14th 2023 X (former Twitter) changed the developer agreement and terms. One unexpected change referred to the content redistribution. Specifically, it states: Academic researchers are permitted to distribute Post IDs and/or User IDs solely for the purposes of non-commercial research on behalf of an academic institution, and that has been approved by X in writing, or peer review or validation of such research. Only as many Post IDs or User IDs as is necessary for such research, and have been approved by X may be used.The changes impact the Tweet IDs we are allowed to deposit and share publicly. Specifically, it implies that for those tweets collected before November 14th (~27,000) the tweet IDs will be deposited with GESIS. For the tweets collected after November 14th, we ask X for permission to share them. If X agrees, we will deposit the Tweet IDs with GESIS. If X disagrees, we will not be able to deposit these tweets. We will also monitor closely any developments in case the developer agreement and terms change again in the future.

Most notably, we updated the data to contain elected politicians up to March 2023, that is, up to and including the Berlin repeat state elections. Due to changes in Twitter/Xs research access policy, the Bremen state elections in May 2023 could not be included in the update. As before, politicians incumbent at the time of observation have a missing "until" field, indicating that the date of their departure from office is (as of yet) unknown. Furthermore, we expanded the data to contain all elected politicians, regardless of them having a Twitter account. For politicians without a twitter account at the time of observation, the information regarding Twitter (user_id, twitter_handle and twitter_name) is simply missing. All other information, such as office incumbency, wikidata ID or abgeordnetenwatch ID, however, is included. Finally, we double-checked some information such as (self-ascribed) gender, age and party with the abgeordnetenwatch database. When values differed from the information originally retrieved from wikidata, the abgeordnetenwatch database was authoritative. Information such as twitter ID and abgeordnetenwatch ID of the politicians were additionally uploaded to wikidata and can be retrieved from there. Note, however, that data such as office or party membership may not always be correct on wikidata, as we did not edit these entries.
